Careers in Information Technology
Information technology has more to do with data and the programming and hardware that deals with the storage and access to data. You might be an expert in databases, or even an internet based database like cold fusion. You also are going to need to be knowledgeable about the different hardware platforms you are going to encounter when dealing with a company’s data. This can be a specifically challenging type of position if you are are working and a company that is merging or buying out another company. Imagine getting both sets of data from totally different systems to work together seamlessly? This is the kind of challenge that can make a career in IT so rewarding and profitable for you.
Careers in Computer Science
Careers in computer science have more to do with computer programming. In other words you will be dealing more with the software applications then you will with the computer hardware. You might be coding new applications for the specific needs of a department at your company. Or you might be creating a new large scale computer application that will integrate all the pieces of a large corporation. Either way being knowledgeable about as many different computer languages as possible will help quite a bit.
Computer Engineering Career
A career in computer engineering is going to deal mostly with the hardware of computers. Depending on your specific focus you might deal more with installation and maintenance of the computers are your company, or you might be working for a research and development firm which is experimenting with new and faster forms of computer chips. Either way this is going to be a hands on of the physical pieces of the computer that interest you.
No matter what your specific computer interests are you be able to find a career path that will suit you. Of course for all jobs that deal with computers these day you’ll need a good college foundation. Careers computer technology go vastly more often to those people who have at least a two year degree. If you have decided to look for careers in technology fields then the best place to start is look online for a list of careers in technology. Then look up the average salary for two or three that seem to interest you. Not that money is everything but if you are deciding between two or three specific computer technology focuses you might as well let the jobs technology pay you the most to do what will make you happy.
