Soft Games Data – ZD Soft Game Recorder

soft games downloadVideo games have come a long way since I first started out playing the Atari 2600. Pac Man, Q Bert, and Pitfall were totally awesome, do doubt. But the games of today are about as close to being there as they have ever been. I’d love to see them remake Pitfall on one of the new gaming systems or for the current computer and see what that would look like, but I’m just not too sure it would keep the interest of today’s kids. If they can remake Transformers I won’t give up home yet though.

Record Your Games

There is a new concept though for today’s online and computer based games. Recording your soft games data or basically capturing the game you are playing for future review. Now in fairness this isn’t totally new as I invented in in the late 80’s. Back in my day I was playing around with our home’s cutting edge A/V equipment and put this all together. By this I mean I figure out how to wire the Nintendo through the VCR, and record my game onto a VHS tape. I of course had no real use for this recording other then to say I had done it so it went no where. That’s the difference today though. These games today are just so involved and you can play with people who aren’t even in the room (across the globe for that matter). When you really get into these games it can really be worth recording the game for future review so that you can see where you went wrong and get better.

Proof of How Awesome You Are

Now that I think about it I also remember back in the day the other reason you might want to capture at least one screen of you game. Before home gaming systems we all went to arcade and when we got the high score we could put in our initials for bragging rights. Then once we all started playing at home I remember seeing in magazines how they were having high score contests and to prove that you got the score you claimed you need to take a picture of the screen showing you score. This is of course before the days of digital pictures and photo shop so the picture itself could be trusted.

Ahh the good old days! 🙂

Angry Birds – Die Pigs!

Angry Birds is cool on two levels. For on it is one of the most addictive smart phone games out there. And the makers are some the ingenious marketers going. I mean I saw a display of plush Angry Birds at the Sears a couple of weeks ago. If that isn’t what “Making It” is all about when it comes though game apps for your phone I just don’t know what is. Those guys must take daily swims in their piles of money, Scrooge McDuck style! I resisted the trend for a quite a while when people were all talking and Angry Birds. Then one day when I had some downtime I downloaded and installed it on my Droid X. I was glued to my phone for three days straight!

It is developed and published by Rovio Mobil Ltd. It’s essentially a very basic game with slick looking graphics and fairly advanced gravity and motion coding in the background.

The Premise

So basically the premise of the game is that some green pigs came along and stole you eggs (you are a bird). You are angry about having your eggs taken…hence the name. You want to get the pigs back and you know just how to do it. You get all your friends together, some are just like you and some are birds with other flying qualities (boomerang flight, split into three, bombs, etc). You look for places where there are basic structures where these green pigs are hiding. You then take turns with your friends jumping into a sling shot up on a hill and hurtling yourself at the structure. You do this until you have inflicted enough damage that you have taken out all of the green pigs. If you accomplish this with the number of your friend available you move on to the next level.

Addictive

It sound kind of corny and far fetched, and it is, but it is just one of those games that you can’t put down. There is strategy and planning involved as well as skill and luck. You come so close to getting all the green pigs that you just have to try that level again, and again, and again, and you finally beat it. Then quickly there is a whole new structure and group of green pigs to attack. OK, just one more level…next thing you know, hours have gone by and you still are attacking pigs!

Computer Programming Degree

A little over a decade ago the folks that were working in a career that involved computers didn’t have a college degree that involved computers. This is because at that time there weren’t colleges that offered majors specilizing in anything that focused on computers. Computers quickly because a must have for small companies to the fortune 500’s though and the people that did have some computer knowledge started making quite a bit of money because they were so in demand. Colleges quickly were able to adapt to the changing environment and now most people working as computer programmers, IT, computer engineers and the like did likely major in computers.

Computer Programming Major

A computer programmer is someone that is going to specialize in writing of code to create applications for their company. Usually these applications will be specific to a need for one department but they can be as large in scope as something needed to be used company wide. As a computer programming major you’ll be exposed to a number of different programming languages and overall coding structure theory as well.

Computer Programming Degree Online

A great option for a computer programming degree is to see what options are available to you online. These may include colleges that offer their entire degree online or you maybe find a traditional campus degree that offers some classes online. Either way taking a class online is going to save you money and give you the flexibility of schedule that many people need in order to make a degree possible.

Associate Degree Computer Programming

An associate degree is your basic two year degree. It’s not going to get you as far ahead as a Bachelors Degree computer programming (4 year degree) would but it’s a great way to get a degree and get employed in the industry that interests you. You also can get an entry level job in the industry and continue with your Bachelors studies at night or online. Then apply for promotions at your company where you have been working and are well known.

Accredited Online Degree

If you do choose to find a college that offers you a completely online degree one thing you need to make sure of is that they are a truely accredited college. There are sites out there that are selling not accredited degrees. It won’t seem like a big deal while you are taking your classed but trust me that it’ll make all the difference when you go to apply for jobs after graduation.

Computer Science Degree

A computer science degree is going to be a little more general then a computer programming degree. With a computer science degree you are going to get a little more exposure to computer hardware as well as networking and IT as well. If you really love computer programming then that is the way to go. However, if you really love computers but aren’t sure what specific area you like then a degree in computer science is the way to go.

Software Engineering Degree

A software engineer is similar to a computer programmer but it’s a little bit of a large scope. A programmer might create the code for a specific part of a program or with the narrow scope of an individual task. A software engineer I think of as more someone that will help create the program along with users right from the ground up. This would include the planning of what the program is going to be, how it will be used, and how it will interact with the other programs the company uses.

Computer Engineering Degree

A computer engineer is someone that works more with the hardware of a computer. You’ll either do more research and development in creating new technologies to make computers faster or better, or you’ll work for a company in their computer department building or fixing their computers for end users.

Game Programming Degree

One newer area of computer degrees is for people who are specifically interested in creating video games. Video games has become a huge industry and now there are college majors that deal specifically with the topic. You can specialize in the coding, with the theory behind the game, or other areas, as making a video game has become a huge under taking. No matter your focus you’ll be involved in cutting edge technology and an exciting industry.
