Windows Media Player is a digital media player made by Microsoft which will handle audio, video, and images. Typically Windows Media Player is used on personal computers running Microsoft Windows operating system, however there are versions which can run on just about anything, including Mac. The most recent version of Windows Media Player is 12, which was released in 2009 in conjunction with Windows 7. If you are running operating systems other then Windows 7 (including any and all earlier versions of Windows) you’ll need to use Media Player 11 (or earlier version).

This post however is looking to focus more so on how to download the Windows Media Player. Even if you aren’t all that familiar with computers if you are running in a Windows environment (you see the Windows logo at some point when you turn on your computer) you can easily download and install the player. The easiest way to find a site to download from is to do a Google search for “Windows Media Player”.

Once you’ve found the site you will need to answer some questions about the version of Windows you are running (XP, 7, etc). Typically Windows Media Player was upgraded along with the latest version of the Windows operating system releases. So you need to make sure you are downloading and installing a more updated version of Windows Media Player then version of Windows you are going to be running it on. Not to worry, even if you answer the questions wrong you’ll get a message somewhere along in the installation process about the issue. Just go back to the site and pick an earlier version of Window Media Player and go through the process again.

Once downloaded just click on the file you downloaded and you’ll against be stepped through the process of installation. Before you know it you’ll be enjoying all the new functionality that Windows Media Player has to offer.

If you are looking to download Windows Media Player before you do you should think about what version of Windows you are running. Is it very outdated? If so them maybe you would be considering a new version of the Windows operating system in your future. If so then it would probably be wise to do that now because more often then not Windows Media Player comes free with the Windows operating system installations.
